We have remained faithful to an ancient tradition based on the great Salerno School of Medicine, from the 10th through the 12th centuries. Of course, we can't forget the health benefits of a Mediterranean diet, rich in vitamins and low in cholesterol, with plenty of fish and fresh vegetables. No wonder southern Italians enjoy the highest longevity rates in the world, next to the Japanese!

Antonio Bruno, San Pietro's executive chef, imports 85 percent of his ingredients from southern Italy, which makes San Pietro's menu authentic and quite special. ("Alitalia is my marketing agent," he says with a grin.)

Award-winning wines

More than any other restaurant in the world, San Pietro is the global "bank" of southern Italian wines, especially those from Campania, Sicilia, Sardinia and Puglia. Wine Director Lubi Kocic is especially proud of the ancient grapes represented on her menu, which include the Romans' celebrated Palerno, along with the Piedirosso and Aglianico, originally brought from Greece.

Lubi is a member of the American Sommeliers Association and the Associazione Sommeliers Italiana.

Our cellars are stocked with the most prestigious wines in the world, and we are proud to serve our patrons the most comprehensive selection of southern Italian wines available, including grapes of antiquity like Aglianico.
