Welcome to the award-winning San Pietro, proclaimed as "the best and most authentic Italian restaurant outside of Italy" by the Italian government, media and culinary organizations.
We believe in "nourishing body and soul," which is the wisdom of our Salerno ancestors from southern Italy. We have remained faithful to an ancient tradition based on the great Salerno School of Medicine, from the 10th through the 12th centuries. The School advocated a healthy, well-balanced diet, regular exercise and a low-stress lifestyle. It is a remarkable prescription that could be written today. Welcome to San Pietro, where antiquity is a lively affair.
The bounty of a southern Italian fall is unforgettable; the delectable dishes of Salerno warm a stomach during this time of cooler temperatures and shorter days.
Of course, we can't forget the health benefits of a Mediterranean diet, rich in vitamins and low in cholesterol, with plenty of fish and fresh vegetables. No wonder southern Italians enjoy the highest longevity rates in the world, next to the Japanese!
Antonio Bruno, San Pietro's executive chef, imports 85 percent of his ingredients from southern Italy, which makes San Pietro's menu authentic and quite special. ("Alitalia is my marketing agent," he says with a grin.)
More than any other restaurant in the world, San Pietro is the global "bank" of southern Italian wines, especially those from Campania, Sicilia, Sardinia and Puglia. Wine Director Lubi Kocic is especially proud of the ancient grapes represented on her menu, which include the Romans' celebrated Palerno, along with the Piedirosso and Aglianico, originally brought from Greece.
Lubi is a member of the American Sommeliers Association and the Associazione Sommeliers Italiana.
Our cellars are stocked with the most prestigious wines in the world, and we are proud to serve our patrons the most comprehensive selection of southern Italian wines available, including grapes of antiquity like Aglianico.
San Pietro is the award-winning, landmark restaurant in Manhattan that is renowned for the healthy, vivacious cuisine of the Amalfi Coast in southern Italy. Globe-traveling dignitaries, CEOs and celebrities find San Pietro a tantalizing way to preserve their memories of Amalfi when they return to the States.
In an age of fusion cuisine, Gerardo and Antonio Bruno, owners of San Pietro, have remained faithful to their roots: they import close to 85 percent of their ingredients from provinces of Campania, Sicilia, Sardinia and Puglia. That is why the Italian government, culinary organizations and media have awarded San Pietro as "the best Italian restaurant outside of Italy".
